Glaucoma Monitoring At-Home

The iCare Home Tonometer is a new technology to help glaucoma patients monitor their eye pressure at home. Eye pressure or intraocular pressure (IOP) is one of many tests provided to monitor glaucoma, however it is the only modifiable risk factor among glaucoma patients today. Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve and is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. Even though it is a slow progressing disease there is no cure and many patients live with the threat of going blind. Early detection and intervention can help decrease vision loss.

Glaucoma is a chronic condition and must be monitored for life. Typically, one’s eye pressure is measured during 3-4 office visits throughout the year. This revolutionary technology is the only device that can check eye pressure multiple times a day for weeks, months or even years while remotely sending the data back to your eye doctor. Self-monitoring provides additional measurements to customize glaucoma treatment.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the iCare Home may serve as a useful tool to help us monitor our patient's eye pressure remotely, decreasing the number of required office visits for at-risk patients. If you are either an established or new patient interested in managing your glaucoma with the iCare home, please contact our office.
